Meriel Bond Ceramics
Raised on a small farm just outside Winnipeg, Meriel Bond is a self-taught ceramic artist. While living in Montréal, she discovered clay in 2018 and has since dedicated herself entirely to its craft. She earns a living working, teaching and creating in community studios, alongside selling her pieces at local markets and exhibitions. In 2023, she completed a residency at Medalta in Medicine Hat, Alberta where she investigated historic, innovative practices in the ceramic industry. Her wheel thrown work showcases the value of craftsmanship and tradition, while its decoration stems from her own nostalgia. She uses centuries-old techniques such as Mishima inlaying, wax resist, and hand-painted lustre to reimagine iconic ornamentation. The result is vintage-inspired tableware and one-of-a-kind decorative pieces.
